Fight gravity while climbing. Climbing exercises ramp up your workout, and can be some of the best workouts to burn fat and build muscle.

Stair Climbing

Find a staircase in your neighborhood or drive to one. Seattle is a hilly area that has many staircases for stair climbing. Some staircases have as many as 500 stairs so you'll be sure to get one of the best stair climbing workouts in Seattle!

20 minutes of stair climbing can burn up to 200 calories or more!

Hill Climbing

Finding a hill to climb is easier than finding stairs, the hill doesn't have to be that steep to get the best workout. Cruise around your neighborhood and find a hill with a good incline.

Feeling outdoorsy? Find a day hike in your area, fill up a backpack (don't forget water and snacks) and hit the trail.

To make your hill climb or hike more intense, walk faster (3.5 mph), trail run up a hill, or fill up a backpack equal to 25% of your body weight.

Calories burned: 400 to 600 calories or more per hour!

Rock Climbing Fitness

Rock climbing for an hour can burn as much as 750 calories and hour!

It doesn't matter if you're at your closest rock climbing gym or outdoors. You use just about every major muscle group and stabilizer muscles imaginable to keep your balance for tricky maneuvers.

Find the cloest rock climbing gym in your area to get started. Some regular gyms have climbing walls you can use (most require a belay class an card) so you don't have to go too far out of your way to get a good climbing workout.
